Robert J. Winkler

Robert J. Winkler, 81, Rushville, died Friday at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born on Feb. 19, 1917, in Rushville, he was the son of Jesse and Mae (Trennepohl) Winkler. On May 6, 1945, he married Aline (Dolan) Winkler, who survives.

Mr. Winkler was a 1935 graduate of Rushville High School. He was a captain in the Air Force, flying several combat missions during World War II.

He ran a Saps Donut route for several years and had served as Rushville Township trustee. He worked at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville from 1992 to 1998.

He was a member of the Four Square Gospel Church, New Castle, a lifetime member of the Full Gospel Businessmen and a member of the Rushville Elks Lodge.

Other survivors include a son, Robert G. Winkler, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; a daughter, Donna Borgerding, Fishers; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Moster & Cox Mortuary, Rushville, with the Rev. Charles McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
