R. C. Barnett, 81, Pioneer Citizen, Died on Tuesday
Robert Clingman Barnette, 81, a pioneer citizen of North Wilkesboro, died at his home here Tuesday, 8:45 p.m.
For 38 years Mr. Barnette was engaged in the blacksmith business here. Twelve years ago he retired because of ill health.
Surviving Mr. Barnette are his widow, Mrs. Ida Hayes Barnette; one daughter, Mrs. R. E. Anderson, and one grandson.
Funeral service was held today, 11 a.m., at the home and burial was in Baptist cemetery here.

1. Subject's middle name has been reported in several places as 'Cling' although Mr. Anderson has no recollection of this.
2. Only child of subject is shown on several documents as 'Vertie', her true name was Verda Louellen Barnette; married 1st to Frank T. Whittington who was killed in an automobile accident, then Roy Edgar Anderson.
3. Their family surname is spelled 'Barnette' (with an 'e' on the end).
4. Burial is located in North Wilkesboro Town Cemetery. While there is no marker at this time, Robert and his wife Ida are "buried adjacent to their son-in-law, Frank T. Whittington which is marked".
