Kelly Samuel Ashford, 87, of Waldron, Arkansas was born on June 26, 1921 in Waldron, Arkansas and passed away on April 15, 2009 in a Waldron Hospital. He was a retired business man, having owned and operated Piggly Wiggly Super Market in Waldron for 35 years. He served as a member of the Buck Knob CCC Camp and in the U.S. Navy six years aboard the USS St. Louis and the USS Marlboro. He was honorably discharged from Jacksonville, Florida Air Base in 1946. He was a deacon of The Waldron Free Will Baptist Church, a long time board member of the First National Bank (formally Bank of Waldron), was a former member of the Waldron Chamber of Commerce and Waldron Lions Club. He also served several years in the Waldron City Council.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mevalene Ammons Ashford of Waldron, Arkansas, one son Gary B. Ashford and wife Joan of Waldron, Arkansas, one sister Kathryn Ashford Jones of Waldron, Arkansas, three brothers Keith Ashford and wife Jean of Sanger, California, Kinslow Ashford and wife Mary of Sanger, California, Kermit Ashford and wife Barbara of Fresno, California, one granddaughter Jill Ashford of Waldron, Arkansas, two grandsons Mark Ashford and wife Samantha of Waldron, Arkansas, Brent Ashford of Dallas, Texas, two great-grandsons Gunnar and Riley both of Waldron, Arkansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Wilson and Tosia Goddard Ashford, two brothers Kenneth and Kerwin Ashford.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Martin Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.

Visitation will be Friday, April 17, 2009 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Larry Rice, Stanley Brewer, Terry Plummer, Dickie Newberry, Jim Wilson, and Wes Goodner.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Bournes, Jim H. Currier, Billy Jack Black, Debra Fuller, Herman Atchley, Wayne Davis, and Kelly Langley, Jr.
