NEW ALBANY – Arnold Roy "Roy Jr." Doom, 84, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born June 8, 1924, in Union County to the late Joseph Roy Doom and Irlene Hamilton Doom. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving overseas for two years. He graduated from Ingomar High School and attended Holmes Jr. College until he joined the Army. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended the University of Mississippi and obtained a bachelor of business degree from LaSalle Extension College while working for the FBI in Washington D.C.

In 1960 he was elected Chancery Clerk for Union County, a position he held for 28 years until he retired in 1988. He was president of the State Chancery Clerk Association. He was a lifelong member of Martin Baptist Church and treasurer of the Martin Cemetery. He was a member of the Civitan Club for years and the American Legion Post No. 72 for 55 years. He was a former board member of Region III Mental Health Center and participated in numerous other community organizations.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Andy Russell officiating. Burial will be in Martin Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Doris Bertelle Howard Doom of New Albany; two daughters, Donna Elizabeth Doom Cobb (Randy) and Janet Doom Jennings, both of New Albany; one son, Arnold Joseph Colt Doom (Dee Ann) of New Albany; two sisters, Betty Doom Bigham (Waymon) of Ecru and Lillian Doom Motchman of Memphis; one brother, Harry Henson Doom (Joyce) of New Albany; six grandchildren, Julie Cobb Brock (Chris), Jana Comer, Casey Jennings, Kagan Doom and Mitch Doom, all of New Albany, and Dustin Cobb of Dallas, Texas; one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Belmont "Bella" Brock of New Albany.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Jo Richardson; two brothers-in-law, Tom Motchman and Floy T. "Shub" Richardson; and a great-niece, Alicia Riker.

Pallbearers will be Larry Bigham, Chris Brock, Dustin Cobb, Kagan Doom, Mitch Doom, Wynn Floyd, Brandon Lowrey, Eric Riker and Steven Lowrey.

Honorary pallbearers will be American Legion Post No. 72 and Joe R. Roberts.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the Union County Relay for Life or Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
