Ira J. Steiner died yesterday afternoon at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Steiner, East Maple Avenue, of pneumonia, aged 27 years. He was for some time employed in a clerical capacity in New York City and was taken ill several weeks ago, and fearing that his illness might be serious; he came to his home Sunday evening, Oct. 6, already very ill. The deceased was a young man of scholarly attainments. He graduated from the Myerstown High School with the class of 1908 and in 1910 from the Keystone State Normal School, Kutztown, and later took up special work at the New York University, where he attained the degrees of Master of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Pedagogy. He devoted a number of years to the profession of teaching, at Parker, N. J. and Dover, N. J., and later for two terms held a similar position at Millville, N. J., and from there went to Port Chester, New York. Last spring he resigned and decided to take up Y.M.C.A. work for the Government and went to Camp Cody, New Mexico. The climate failed to agree with him and he returned home and later took up his clerical position in New York City, intending to return to Y.M.C.A. work after recuperating. The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with services to be conducted at the house by Rev. A. E. Youse, of Frieden's Lutheran Church. Interment will be made on the Union Cemetery. Funeral Director Isaac N. Bahney has charge of the arrangements. [Lebanon Daily News, October 18, 1918, Page 3]
