CHANUTE, KS. - Frederick David Card, 62, died Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas.

He was born November 5, 1939 at Humboldt, Kansas, the son of Elmer and Christiana Lucinda Jane (Baker) Card.

He attended Humboldt High School.

On August 10, 1981 he married Cathy (Colston) Bower, in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives.

He was a truck driver for EOTT for many years until he retired in 1999.

He was a member of Thayer Christian church, Thayer, KS, the S.A.L. American Legion, and Elks Lodge of Chanute, KS.

He was well known for his love of helping people, fishing and camping, and for going to flea markets. He was especially fond of his Maltese dog, Casper.

Other survivors include, two sons, Tim Card of Burlington, KS, and Craig Card of Chanute, KS; a daughter, Susan Knavel, of La Harpe, KS; two step-sons, Jon Bower II and Gary Crowl, both of Chanute, KS; three step-daughters, Tammy Thornton and Lori Whittley, both of Thayer, KS, and Cindy Ohmart of Kansas City, MO; 20 grandchildren; one brother, Charles Card of Melissa, TX; a sister, Mary Jane Sumner of Grove, OK, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be July 31, 2002, at Thayer Christian Church, Thayer, KS, with Mr. James Pelley officiating.

Interment will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas.

The family suggests memorials to the Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left in care of the mortuary.

Johnson Mortuary, Chanute, KS, is in charge of the arrangements.
