Following is his obituary from a local newspaper:
--John Armstrong, a well known character, died suddenly on Wednesday of this week, at the home of his daughter in the town of Rockbridge. He complained of not feeling well and started for home, but returned before going far, seated himself in a chair and expired suddenly. He served in an Indiana regiment during the war, and was a member of the G. A. R. post in this city. He leaves a wife and a number of children.
