MILITARY RITES FOR BERGFELDT SLATED MONDAY
Full military honors will be accorded to Spec 5 David E Bergfeldt who was killed in action in Vietnam December 23, at 11:00AM rites Monday at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso.
Funeral services were held at 11:00AM, rites on Saturday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The Reverand Melvin Snodgrass officiated.
Bergfeldt was serving his third tour of duty in Vietnam when cut down on a road about 28 miles north of Saigon. He and three other men were ambushed by about 20 Viet Cong relatives said.He had served 24 months in Viet Nam of his slightly over 6 years of service.
Bergfeldt enlisted in the service Sept 1963 after attending Lynn High School here. A native of Minnesota he had called Las Cruces his home prior to enlisting.
Surviving are his father Olof Bergfeldt of Hallock, Minnesota, his mother Hilvie Smith of Las Cruces, one sister Mrs. Arlen Iverson of Las Cruces.
The body arrived from Viet Nam on Saturday.
