Barbara A. Challenger, 71, of Williamstown passed away Monday, April 13th at the Manor of the Susquehanna Village, Millersburg.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Born in Williamstown, January 27, 1938, a daughter of the late Daniel and Ruth Weidel Talhelm.

She graduated from the former Williamstown High School.

She was an active member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church, where she dedicated most of her time to help in any way she could.

She belonged to the church choir, the United Methodist Women's organization, and was a Communion steward/Altar Guild member.

She was also a member of the Williamstown American Legion Home Association.

Retired from the Department of Labor & Industry's Bureau of Unemployment Compensation,

Barbara previously worked for the Board of Probation and Parole, Miners National Bank, Williamstown, WQIN radio station in Lykens, and volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program.

She loved cooking, baking, watching sports, working in her yard, and helping others.

She adored her grandchildren and being involved in their lives. She was their #1 fan.

Barbara was pre-deceased by two brothers, John and Robert Talhelm, a sister Ada Devers, and a daughter-in-law, Barbara M. Challenger.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years Joseph "Booty" Challenger; a daughter, Dawn, wife of Gary Shiley, Williamstown; a son Bret Challenger, Schuylkill Haven; four grandchildren, Amy and Erica Schreffler, Daniel and Christie Challenger, a brother, Donald Talhelm, Hellertown, two sisters, Alma Pennell, Levittown, and Carol Wetzel, Harrisburg. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00 am from Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown with Rev. Stevan Atanasoff.

Following the graveside service, there will be a luncheon at the Williamstown United Methodist Church social hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her church, East and Spruce Streets, Williamstown PA 17098.

Barbara's family would like to thank all the wonderful people at The Manor who took such good care of her and also for her friends and family for their visits, cards, flowers, and prayers.
