Vern Brumfield Rites January 18
Funeral services for Vern B. Brumfield, 73, of Blockton, held January 18 in the Blockton Christian Church, were conducted by Rev. G.W. Swan. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.
Vern B. Brumfield, son of W. [illiam] W. [ilbur] and Lucy [Lavenia Round] Brumfield, was born Feb. 19, 1898, near Bedford.
He attended school in Taylor County and Worth County, Missouri.
He was a member of the Blockton Christian Church.
In 1922 he was united in marriage to Myrel Hiatt and to this union was born one daughter, Opal.
His wife preceded him in death in 1967.
He engaged in farming and carpenter work and operated motels and restaurants during his life. He retired about 15 years ago because of failing health.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Homer Baxter of Britt, Iowa; two grandsons, Robert Baxter of Villisca, Iowa, and Ronald Baxter of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two granddaughters, Debbie and Sheila Baxter of Villisca; four sisters, Mrs. Wayne Hennegin, Sheridan, Mo., Mrs. Bertha Argo, Baldwin Park, Calif., Mrs. Effie Barton, Mapleton, Ia., Mrs. Zona Miller, Sumner, Wash., and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Vern was a devoted husband and father.
Though somewhat physically impaired, he enjoyed out-of-door activities such as hunting, fishing and gardening.
