Myrel Brumfield Rites in Blockton
Funeral services for Mrs. Vern (Myrel) Brumfield, 62, of Blockton were held July 3 at the Stockton Christian Church with Rev. D. L. Roberts officiating, assisted by Rev. G. W. Swan. Mrs. Brumfield died July 1. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.
Myrel M. Brumfield was born Aug. 23, 1904, at Palisade, Colo. Her parents were Edwin Hiatt and Ida Young Hiatt. She attended school at Fruita, Colo.
She was married to Vern B. Brumfield on Sept 9, 1922, at Palisade, Colo. On July 4, 1923, their only child was born, Opal Marie, now Mrs. Homer Baxter of Britt, Iowa.
She Joined the Methodist Church of Fruita, Colo., in childhood.
Most of her married life was spent in and around Blockton except for periods of time in Washington and California in construction work or operating motels in Oregon and Missouri Valley, Iowa.
Myrel was always in good health until she became ill 18 months ago. Since then, she has spent a great deal of time in hospitals.
Surviving are her husband, Vern; one daughter, Opal; two sisters, Mrs. Goldie Arbuckle of Torrance, Calif., and Mrs. Ladean Strobaugh of Fort Pierce, Florida; three brothers, Edwin Hiatt of Fruita, Colo., George Hiatt of Culp Creek, Ore., and Vernon Hiatt of Harbor City, Calif.; two grandsons, Bob and Ron Baxter; and two great granddaughters, Debbie and Sheila Baxter.
