At the age of 13 or 14 was shang-hi'd onto a ship of Hessian solders and transported to America to fight for the British. He was one of Burgoyne's solders, in the War of the Revolution. He was taken prisoner at the battle of bunker Hill, and when paroled, would not return home, but remained in the United States
He married Regina Kanier April 13, 1788 in Kinderbrook, Columbia County, New York. They had five boys and seven girls.
