Nicholas Samuels Sr., died Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, July 6th at his home three miles south of town. He was born in Luxembourg, Belgium, March 18, 1836 and came to the United States when a boy, settling in Wisconsin. He was married to Anna Sandt, at Port Washington, March 4th, 1863.
He enrolled as volunteer in Company K, 50th Regiment of Wisconsin Infantry in 1865 and was honorably discharged in 1866. In a few years he moved to Solomon, Kansas, and removed to the present home about 30 years ago. His wife and three sons preceded him. He is survived by 9 children, 7 sons and 2 daughters, all living in Kansas.
The funeral took place from St. Rose's Catholic church, July 8th, conducted by Rev. Father Powers. Interment in Calvary cemetery.
