John Henry Hayes was the son of Martin F. and Mary Marie Hayes (nee Meyer). He was in the United States Navy from 1926 - 1950. He enlisted in Cincinatti, OH and separated in Philadelphia, PA. He was at the battle of Midway and participated in the Marianas Operation. He traveled to the Phillippines, Africa, Iceland, Pearl Harbor, HI, Cuba and all over the South Pacific. He received multiple medals and had shellback and bluenose cards. His rank was Machinist Mate Chief. His name is on the WWII memorial in the back of the bottom church at Visitation BVM at B & Lehigh in Philadelphia, PA. He married Anne Barbara Kellenbenz in Philadelphia, PA in 1935.
