Neal was the daughter of Albert and Sarah "Sallie" Nichols. She married Noah Williams. Both of them died young of tuberculosis, his death soon followed by hers, leaving their children as orphans. She was the mother of Gardner Lee, his twin who died at birth in 1899, Sallie Mae, Minnie, Walter Wayne, and Julia Williams.
