Baptized 13 July 1606 at Cottesbach, Leicestershire, son of Reverend Henry Dillingham. Came from Cottesbach, Leicestershire to Massachusetts Bay in 1630. First settled in Boston; moved to Lynn in 1632, & to Ipswich in 1634. Died between December 1634 (grant of land in Ipswich) and July 1636 (will of wife Sarah).
Married Assington, Suffolk, 18 Feb 1633[/4] Sarah Caly. She was baptized at Little Waldingfield, Suffolk, 26 May 1607, daughter of Thomas & Thomasine (Gosse) Caly & died at Ipswich between 14 July 1636 (date of will) and 6 September 1636 (court order on estate).
John Dillingham was younger brother of Edward Dillingham, who came to New England and lived at Lynn and Sandwich. The date of arrival of Edward is not certain, as the records frequently refer simply to "Dillingham" or "Mr. Dillingham," without distinguishing between John and Edward.
Walter Goodwin Davis has also suggested the possibility of a connection with the Shatswell family of Ipswich.
