Loa L. Melzer was born in Streeter, North Dakota on Christmas Day, 1909 to Edward and Stella (Hays) Reeser.

She graduated from Dawson, ND high school ad Ellendale Normal school. She taught elementary school in Woodworth, ND where she met her husband, S.M. "Sim" Melzer.
They were married on June 2, 1940 and resided in Bismarck, ND before moving to Canby in 1945. From 1945 to 1957 they owned the Melzer-Reeser Motor Company, which was sold to Page Brothers.
Loa remained in Canby following Sim's death but moved to San Antonio in 1993 for health reasons.

Loa was active in the life of her family and her community, including as a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Order of Eastern Star, MECCA, Yellow Medicine Historical Society, as a troop leader for her daughter's Brownie and Girl Scout Troops and by serving as a chaperone during several band trips.

Her husband, an infant son, her parents, and two brothers preceded Loa in death. She is survived by Beatrice Melzer of Minneapolis, MN, Dr. Barbara Melzer, Dr. Kathryn Safford and Marvel (Reeser) Kempf, all of San Antonio, TX; Frieda (Lloyd) Reeser of Prescott, AZ, (Gene, Mike, Steve, Kathy,); Helen and Lowell Reeser of Battle Lake, MN (Ron, Rae Carol, Kendal); and Mavis (Reeser) Dirks of Osage, MN (Joan, Karen, Kevin, Todd).
