Thaddeus Larned (son of Simon Sr.) was a minute man and went out on the Lexington Alarm and the New York expedition where his brother Jesse Larned was killed. There is a document written by Thaddeus Larned to Col William Shepard at York Hutts dated May 14, 1782 discussing the “Joshua Huddy Affair” and actually mentions George Washington. Thaddeus joined with General Daniel Larned in 1803 in purchasing the Thompson land from English proprietors who had held it for 120 years. This was a remarkable speculation that brought fair returns. It is interesting to note that there is not an acre of land in Thompson of which the title comes through confiscation, which fact is in marked contrast to the New York territory. Thaddeus died in 1818 and his funeral was the first in the new church at Thompson Common. There are several deeds signed by Thaddeus Larned as Justice of the Peace.
