EAST WENATCHEE _ John August Grupp, 78, of East Wenatchee, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1993, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born May 3, 1915, to John and Matilda (Rosneau) Grupp, at Ulen, Minn., where he grew up and received his education. He farmed to help support his family.

He married Clara D. Johnson on Oct. 8, 1938, at Hawley, Minn., and they made their first home at Fargo, N.D. They moved to Washington in 1942, and lived at Manchester. They moved to Centralia in 1943, and lived there until 1945, when they returned to Minnesota where they operated a farm.

They returned to the Pacific Northwest in 1947, and lived at Forest Grove, Ore. Mr. Grupp logged at different logging camps until 1951, when they moved to Port Orchard. Mr. Grupp worked in construction and later owned and operated a service and gas station. They moved to Orondo in 1960, and Mr. Grupp worked for Grady Auvil. They moved to Seattle in 1965, and Mr. Grupp worked for Boeing Co. and an aluminum extrusion plant. He retired in 1978. Mr. and Mrs. Grupp moved to East Wenatchee in 1989.

Mr. Grupp was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, East Wenatchee, and the Old Time Fiddlers, Seattle.

He is survived by a son, John C. Grupp of East Wenatchee; three daughters, Barbara Michels and Marilyn Grossman, both of East Wenatchee and Cheryl Davis of Kingport, Tenn.; two sisters, Gertrude Olson of Hawley, Minn., and Amelia Borneman of Spanaway; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, in 1990, two brothers and two sisters.
