Joanna M. Eccles Boruff 89, of Indianapolis, formerly of Clay City, passed away at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis April 10, 2009 following an extended illness. She was born in Clay County May 10, 1919 to John E. and Juanita (Miller) Eccles. Mrs. Boruff graduated from Lewis Township High School. She attended Indiana State Teachers College, earning a teaching certificate and later graduated from Butler University with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Clay County, Lewis Township and later Decatur Central in Indianapolis. Mrs. Boruff married Joseph Wayne Boruff on July 3, 1944. She was a member of the Howesville Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed word find puzzles, working with ceramics and painting. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Juanita Eccles; husband, Joseph Wayne Boruff; two brothers, William T. Eccles and Don "Doc" Eccles. Survivors include a brother, Charles Eccles and wife, Nyla of Plainfield; sister, Betty Rhoderick and husband, George of Lawrence, IN as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
