MARBLEHEAD - Mrs. Ruth (Martin) Putnam, 85, of 65 Roosevelt Ave., died Tuesday morning in Salem Hospital following a brief illness.

She was the wife of the late Percy Putnam.

A native of Marblehead, Mrs. Putnam was the daughter of the late Knott and Celia (Titus) Martin. She was a lifelong Marblehead resident.

She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church on Mugford Street and also was a member of the church's New Dorcas Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Jane) Bridgeo and Mrs. Edward (Diane) Kenny, both of Marblehead; five sisters, Mrs. William (Elizabeth ) Ball, Jr., Mrs. William (Edith) Ball Sr., Mrs. Harry (Louise) Cutler, Mrs. Howard (Thelma) Bluin and Miss Emma Martin, all of Marblehead; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Unitarian Universalist Church, Marblehead.
