Margaret Eltzroth was born a late child to her family, in Cass Co., central northern Indiana, near the junction of the Wabash River and the Eel River. Her father Peter died there in his mid forties when Margaret was only six years old.
It was there in the Logansport, Cass Co. area that Margaret was then raised to young adulthood.
At age 24 at Logansport she met and married Henry William Raver, on March 24, 1864. Henry was the same age as Margaret. The Raver family was from the Logansport area and nearby Pulaski Co., a few miles to the northwest.
The newlywed Raver couple settled there at Logansport, where they had their first child, Russell Allen Raver, early in 1865.
By the late 1860s the young Raver family soon moved up to Star City in nearby Pulaski County.
Among their subsequent children they had another son, James, and in late 1872 William Henry Raver was born at Star City.
Many years later the Raver family was still living in Indiana, when by 1890 Margaret's son Russell Allen Raver married Alice Gertrude Brookens. That couple soon moved out west to settle for a time in Gering, Nebraska.
Margaret's younger son, 24-year old William Henry Raver, then married young Jessie Gertrude Chappelear on October 27, 1897 in Bunker Hill, Miami Co., a few miles east of the Logansport area.
At that point the young William and Jessie Raver family, along with William's then elderly parents Henry Raver and Margaret, soon all headed far out west, where they stayed briefly at Carey, Blaine Co., in south central Idaho by 1899. It was there that they sadly lost their first infant child, William Dale, at only 12 weeks.
By the next year the Raver family moved on further west to settle here across the Oregon border near the Snake River at Sumpter in Baker Co., where they had their first baby girl, Edith. The Ravers' second child born here was Vernon Ernest Raver, in 1902.
Tragically, Vernon lived only three months, leaving his big sister Edith again as an only child.
Within the following year, Vernon's grandmother Margaret also died here, at age 63, and she was buried with Vernon in their shared grave.
A few years later the surviving family moved a few miles southeast to Ontario, Malheur Co., on the Malheur River, before returning to south central Idaho a decade later. But eventually many of the Raver family members came back here to the area of their eastern Oregon roots.
