Nyman, Kenneth B. 84 2/3/1925 4/5/2009 Surrounded by loved ones, Kenneth B. Nyman of Beaverton passed away April 5, 2009. He was 84. Born to Swedish immigrants and a family of four on Feb. 3, 1925, Ken lived in the Portland area his whole life. His passion for life and deep faith in Christ resonated throughout his years on earth. These were things he was eager to share with people through his quick wit and many stories. In 1944, Ken joined the U.S. Army and served in Japan and the Philippines during World War II. After his military service, he attended Portland State University, where he completed courses in drafting, mathematics, and accounting. In 1947, he married Alice and they had three children together. In 1962, the family moved from Portland to a farm in the country, where he maintained the land and taught his children to ride horses. Ken worked in accounting for 40 years at Johnson Lieber, and another 10 years for Clear Creek Telephone Co. Throughout his career, he served on several boards of directors and had various business affiliations. After retiring, Ken started his own side business in irrigation system design and installation. He also enjoyed traveling. Hawaii was one of his favorite destinations, but he and Alice also enjoyed spending as much time as they could together at the Oregon coast. A devout Christian, Ken was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aloha. Ken's love for his family was central to his life. He is survived by his lifelong sweetheart and wife of 62 years; one son; two daughters (and their spouses); five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. Donations in honor of Ken Nyman can be made to Parkinson's Center of Oregon, 3181 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road OP 32, Portland, OR 97239.
