HERMOSA - Eleanor "Babe" Wilsey, 95, of Hermosa, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.

She was born Oct. 31, 1904, at Hermosa to C.W. and Eleanor (Grass) Arnold. She grew up on a ranch near Hermosa and raced horses as a young girl. She married Norman Walton in 1921 at Hermosa, and they made their home on the former Arnold ranch on Battle Creek. There were seven children born to this marriage.

After her husband's death in 1942, she and the children ran the ranch until her marriage to Lee Wilsey at Hot Springs in 1948 . His six children joined the family at that time. They retired from ranching in 1968 and moved to Hermosa.

Her hobbies and interests included gardening, canning, baking, knitting and quilting. She was a life member of Order of Eastern Star, Ladies Aid and United Church of Christ, all of Hermosa.

She is survived by two daughters, Darlene "Toots" Johnson and Beverly Taylor, both of Hermosa; two stepsons, Larry Wilsey and Roger Wilsey, both of Rapid City; three stepdaughters, Lois Pigsley, Rapid City, Audrey Webb, Nekoosa, Wis., and Doris Reed, Coral Springs, Fla.; one sister-in-law Lillian Walton of Hermosa; 18 grandchildren, Marla Leonard, Patty Cline, Berniel Shaw, Joe Mechaley, Pat Mechaley, Gale Walton, Deb Ritter, Charles White, Benita White-Gilbert, Kent White, Sandra Meng, Tamara Hurd, Charryl Woods, Laurie Lauzon, Darryl "Tuffy" Lyons, Raymond H. Hughes, Minda Garcia and Tom Karp; 11 step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Norman Walton in 1942 and Lee Wilsey in 1989; one sister, Gladys Lintz; one brother, Tom Arnold; five children, Frances Gatzemeyer, Phyllis Gerry, Cleda Bale, Norman Walton, and Lois Spevak; one stepson, Bill Wilsey; three grandchildren, Randy Gatzemeyer, Duane McLaughlin and Bonnie Tines; one stepgrandson, Patrick Webb; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Rooks & Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City on Monday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and then at the church on Tuesday for one hour before services. Services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at United Church of Christ in Hermosa, with the Rev. Barb Gammeter and the Rev. Tom Karp officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Hermosa.

A memorial has been established.
