SAN ANTONIO - Barbara Louise Murray Zachary, age 58, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born Jan. 17, 1951, in Brady, Texas, to Raymond and Thelma Murray. Barbara graduated from Melvin High School and received degrees from Texas Tech University and University of Texas at San Antonio. She served the underprivileged through the Vista Corps in Little Rock, Ark., for four years. She moved to San Antonio in 1976, where she met her husband, Vance, and they had a son, Jonathan. In San Antonio, she worked for Baptist Student Union at San Antonio College, Child Protective Services, and Presa Community Center where she also served on the Board of Directors. She worked for the Department of Human Services for 28 years where she administered and managed the food distribution program to schools and day care centers throughout Texas. She retired in January 2009 and received an award as Honorary Commissioner for the Texas Department of Agriculture. Barbara always exhibited a lively and happy personality. She was known for her generosity and caring for others. Family and friends were very important to Barbara, and she was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
