The following obituary of a former Boone lady is taken from the Richmond Missouri, Conservative: "Mrs. Emily Clark, one of Ray county's pioneer woman died Wednesday morning February 24th instant at nine o'clock, at the home of her son, James M. Clark, in the Hickory Grove country, the result of old age. The deceased was a native of Indiana and was nearing her 89th birthday when removed by death. She was the widow of the late R.S. Clark and had been a resident of Ray County since 1867. Six children, five sons and one daughter survive her, and to them the sympathy of the community is extended. The funeral services conducted by Rev. John W. Bubb, of Millville, were held this forenoon at eleven o'clock at Hickory Grove church and interment occurred in the cemetery at that place." Mrs. Clark will be remembered by the early settlers of Boone county, R.S. Clark, her husband, entered the land lying just west of the Fifth ward of Boone now known as the Zimbelman homestead. Mr. Clark sold the farm to the late John Zimbelman in 1867 and moved with his family to Missouri and settled in Ray County. Boone County at the first election ordered held by Judge McKay on the 6th day of August 1849. This election was held at the house of John M. Crooks. Mrs. Clark was a sister of Capt. S.B. McCall who was appointed by Judge McKay sheriff to organize the county, and is now living in Los Angeles, California.
