Frederick Augustus Bailey was born in Providence County, Rhode Island, the son of Capt. Henry Bailey and Mary Marie Ballou. He is believed to have come to Texas at a very early age.

Frederick Bailey was married twice in Texas. First to Lydia Marie Doughty and second to Mary A. Keith. To these marriages, twelve known children were born; Leo, Elvin, Nigel Bruce, Edwin, Percy, Ethel May, Adrian, Mary Alice, Minnie Ellen, Myrtle, William Edward and Mark Mandry Bailey. This family lived in Waller, Bee and Burnet County, Texas.

In 1914, Frederick applied for pension based on his Civil War service, and received it, (Texas State Archives #28569). He had served in CO K 21st TEX CAV CSA and CO D 8th TEX INF CSA.
