G.B. (Joe) Boyd, well known Chandler man, died in a Jacksonville hospital Sunday night at 6:15 o'clock after an illness of about three weeks. His death followed by less than a week that of his wife, who died Monday morning January 13, and was buried the following Tuesday.
Mr. Boyd was born on February 4, 1867, in Alabama, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Boyd, and moved to Chandler when he was 18 years of age.
He received his education at Old Omen College, near Troup, and taught school for a number of years in this county. He later went into the lumber business, and continued that business until two years ago. At the time of his death, he operated a farm and a ranch near Chandler.
He and Mrs. Boyd, the former Miss Ann Chandler, were married at Chandler 57 years ago.
He was member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Harry Boyd Of Waco and A.D. Boyd of Chandler, both former county attorneys of Henderson County; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Boyd of Huntsville and Mrs. W.A. Horton of Los Angeles, California; one sister, Mrs. Mollie Smith of Houston, Mississippi; and one brother, Will Boyd of San Antonio.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Chandler Methodist Church, with the Rev. Turner officiating. Burial was in the Chandler Cemetery.
