Pansy was the 2nd wife of Lewin Lafayette Medford.

Canton - Pansy Young Medford, 83, of 137 Vista Lane, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at her residence.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Lyda Columbus and Mamie Elizabeth Smith Young. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred C. Trantham, who died in 1968 and a daughter, Carolyn T. Pace, who died in 1996; two sisters, Louise Whitted and Marie Fletcher; two brothers, Robert and Cecil Young.

She was a homemaker and member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Lewin L. Medford; daughter, Freida Towe of Canton; two sons, Thomas Trantham and his wife, Shirley, of Weaverville and Bruce Trantham and his wife, Kathy, of Hendersonville; step daughter, Loretta Rector of Johnstown, Ohio; and step son, Erwin Medford of Grantville, Ga.; two sisters, Polly Hall of Candler and Mary Rose of Burlington; brother, Benny Young and his wife, Ruth; of Canton; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Cayton officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road.
