William T. Smith of San Angelo, Texas, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 4, 2009. Bill was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Newport News, Va., to Edwin Winslow and Guylene Smith. He was preceded in death by his father; three brothers; and sister Viola. Dad served in the Army during WWII and served in Korea and the Phillipines. He then enlisted in the Air Force and served in France and Germany. He married Wilma M. Pinson on a Saturday in July 1950. Together they raised five children and traveled the country. He retired from the Air Force in 1966 and we ultimately settled in San Angelo in 1969. He is survived by his loving and loving wife, Wilma, after 59 years of marriage; his son, William Smith Jr. and his wife, Carol; grandsons Brian, Wes and Jason; his son, David Smith and grandson David Smith Jr.; his son, James Smith and wife Teri and granddaughter Rebecca and grandson Matt; his daughter, Lesley and husband Michael Lancaster and Robert Smith and grandsons Robby and Brandon; Lesley's friend from Kathryn Chowning, affectionately known by Dad as Squirrel No. 2; four sisters Lillian Greeson, Edna Jackson and Anna Smith, all of Charlotte, N.C., and Marie Parker of Wilmington, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law Kitty Floyd. Dad was a loyal, devoted husband and father. He was a steady man and never wavered in his love for his family. We love you Dad, we miss you, your war stories and playing cards together. The family will have a memorial service at Union Band Cemetery April 10, 2009, at 2 p.m. The family thanks the 1st responders of the Grape Creek Sheriff's Department, the EMTS from the Coliseum Fire Dept., Drs. Russman, Nan, Bethal, Buchanan and Becker; Shannon ICU; 5 North nurses, especially Marty and CNA's Sylvia and Elva, and nurses Wendy, Arlisse and Aaron; and many friends, family and names we;re forgotten for their professionalism, expertise and above all, kindness to Dad and his family.
