NEW CARLISLE - Robbie L. Biggerstaff, 86, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 12:31 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in his home. Robbie was born on September 14, 1922, in McLeansboro, IL, to Grover and Katie Biggerstaff.

He had lived in New Carlisle for 46 years. Robbie retired as the owner of Reliable Roofers. On February 22, 1961, he married Ruth Baker, who preceded him in death on June 23, 2004. Also preceding him in death were two children, Robbie Biggerstaff II and Lisa Biggerstaff; two sisters, Betty Hazel and Nellie Motto; and two brothers, George and John Biggerstaff. Robbie is survived by two daughters, Victoria Biggerstaff and April (Jason) Schimmel, both of Hudson Lake, IN; three sons, William "Billy" (Jan) Biggerstaff and Robert "Buddy" (Lori) Biggerstaff, both of Hudson Lake, IN, and William Biggerstaff of Key West, FL; one foster daughter, Lisa Thompson of Kansas; 12 grandchildren, Robert (Lisa) Rea, Robbie (Cathy) Rea, Billy (Angie) Warren, Crill (Joy) Warren, Heather (Bryan) Glanz, Jessica Warren, Amanda Biggerstaff, Lauren Biggerstaff, Kadi Bronson, Nicole Biggerstaff, Dustin Schimmel and Destiny Schimmel; and 10 great-grandchildren, Ali, Aiden, Jacen and Brett Rea, Tyler, Kylie and Evan Warren, Jane Hensell, Ana Glanz and Robert Pearce; and one sister, Lucille Goodwin of Michigan City, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., E.S.T., Friday, April 10, 2009, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Burial will follow in New Carlisle Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. E.S.T. today, and for one hour prior to services on Friday in the funeral home.

Robbie was a W.W. II Army veteran. He was a member of the Hudson Lake Mennonite Church, American Legion Post 297, and the National Roofers Union.
