Dr. James Marion Marble died Friday, April 3, 2009, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson at the age of 76. A private family graveside will take place on the farm in Terry, on which Dr. Marble lived until his death. This service will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2009. Memorial service will be held Saturday April 11, 2009, at 2:00 pm at 5138 Moncure-Marble Road Terry, MS 39170. For more information, call Blair Marble at 601-613-5021.
James M. Marble was born on June 27, 1933, in Jackson, Hinds County, MS. He graduated from State high School in Louisiana, in 1951. He graduated from Hinds Junior college with an Associate's degree in 1953. He went on to MS State College and received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education in 1955. After serving several years in the U.S. Navy, James Marble continued his education at Mississippi State University with a Masters of Education in 1963. In 1973, James graduated with a Doctorate of Education from Mississippi State University. Following graduation, Dr. Marble began a lifelong career in teaching and testing children in the public school systems in both Mississippi and Louisiana. Dr. James Marble was also very involved early on in his life with the United Methodist Church and later with the Safe Harbor Church.
Upon retirement, "Bud", as called by close family and friends enjoyed the farm in Terry. He loved his many animals, cattle, donkeys, pigs, dogs and cats but most enjoyed taking care of his poultry.
Dr. Marble is preceded in death by his parents, James Blair Marble and Thelma Bazoon Marble; sisters, Joyce Marble, Charline Marble Halverson, Sylvia Marble Sistrunk; and brother, Kenneth E. Marble. He is also preceded in death by nephew, Terry Ray Simmons and great nephew, Jerod Paul Powers.
Dr. Marble's survivors include: his brother, Bobby Ray Marble; his sister, Carolyn Ann Simmons; sisters-in-law, Gloria Marble and Frances Marble; brothers-in-law, Leo Halverson and Odis Sistrunk. He is also survived by nieces, Eliska Halverson Counts, Renee Marble, Cindy Sistrunk Knox, Andrea Marble, DVM, and Melissa Marble Warrington; by nephews, Blair Marble, Jody Sistrunk, and Clayton Marble; great nieces, Jamie Powers Sutherland, Alanna Brooke Marble, Gracie Marble-Barrett, Margaret Marble-Barret;t and great nephews, Hartmann Marble-Wright, Zackery O. Warrington, Nathan and Ryan Lucero.
