HICKS, Dr. Gilbert Lee was born July 12, 1887 in Paton, Greene County, Iowa the son of Rev. Nathan Field Hicks and Ella Viola Rand. He married Lora Frances Hill September 3, 1913 in Lucas, Lucas County, Iowa. He attended Leander Clark College in Iowa where he received his BA degree. He served as the Superintendent of Schools in Allerton, Iowa in 1917. He was an optometric scholar and educator who became the Dean of the Monroe College of Optometry in Chicago. He was on the board of trustees and the advisory council of the College of Optometry and held the office of Dean Emeritus at the time of his death. He married Ema Fry Kellogg in August, 1929 in Naperville. He was raised a Master Mason June 15,1926. He died February 15, 1951 in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois and was buried in the Naperville Cemetery.
