The Death of Grandma Francis

Death came to the house of one of our citizens last Sunday evening and called away another of the old Mothers in Israel, Grandma Francis, and all alike mom the passing of this fine old mother.

Pheobe A. Gould was born January 23, 1839, in DeKalb County, Illinois. Died at the home of her son Frank Francis, in this city, Sunday, November 26, 1922, making her age at death 83 years, 10 months, and 3 days. She was married to Stephen D. Francis, June 26, 1859, in Cortland, Illinois, DeKalb County. To this union were born twelve children; six have preceded her in death; 6 living: 5 boys and 1 girl. William F of Mangum, Oklahoma; Charley C of Bado, MO; Benjamin B of Spokane, Washington; John H of Boone, Iowa; Orah E of Kansas City, MO; and Franklin E of Houston, MO. Her husband died in 1895. Grandma Francis has been a member of the Baptist Church for lo, these many years and hers has a true Christian life, living very near her Lord and Saviour, doing good unto others, carrying a message of kindness and love to all. She joined Union Baptist Church, but not transferred her membership to Houston Church many years ago.

Grandma Francis was a true Christian mother and was dearly loved by all who knew her for her kind and affectionate disposition. She will be greatly missed by her children, especially in the home of her son, Frank, who has lived with all his life and has been truly a dutiful and thoughtful and attentive son. But grieve not dear children, for Grandma has gone to that home above where sorrow and death never come. The entire community is grieved over the death of this dear Mother and all join in earnest symphathy to the bereaved family.

Short funeral service was conducted at the home of her son. Frank in the city, Monday just afternoon and the remains were conveyed to Union Cemetery for burial, services being conducted by her Pastor, Rev.--B Tillery, at Union Church.

She has crossed the dark river and joined her companion and loved ones among the hosts of the saved on the other shore.
