Mr. Melvin L. Cabbage, 69, of Clarinda died suddenly the morning of Aug. 29, 1986 at his farm south of Clarinda.
He was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Page County, Ia. the son of Edward Otis and Edna Rachael (Hilton) Cabbage.
He was married to Pauline Runyan on Dec. 26, 1938.
Mr Cabbage had been a farmer and member of the Siam Masonic Lodge and Easter Star. He was also a member of the Plainsmen choir.
Mr. and Mrs. Cabbage had moved to Clarinda, but he had continued to be active on his farm.
Besides his wife of the home, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lynn (Phyllis) Miles and Mrs. Steve (Beth) Gregory, both of Clarinda. There are two grandsons and two granddaughters. Mrs. Millicent Guthrie of Clarinda is a sister.
He was preceded in death by parents, one brother, one sister and an infant daughter.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at the Shambaugh Church of God of which he was a longtime member, with Rev. Ray Draper officiating.
Burial was in Clarinda cemetery, with Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the Shambaugh Church of God or the Diabeties Association.
