Samuel Marshall DeGarmo was born to Earl and Mary DeGarmo November 11, 1853, at Brooklyn, Ill., and departed this life at his home in Wray, Colo., January 24, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 13 days.

His boyhood and young manhood was spent in Illinois. He moved in 1880 to Nebraska, in which state he spent the greater part of the remainder of his life until he moved to Wray in 1924, where his last years were spent.

He was united in marriage February 7, 1872 to Mary Jane Downey. To this union were born five children. His wife departed this life in 1884. He was again united in marriage August 7, 1890 to Mary Reynolds. Eleven children were born to this union.

For half a century he had lived a steadfast, exemplary Christian life, continuing to be loyal and true through the last months of his suffering even until there came for the weary that blessed relief. He was ever a faithful, loving husband and father, a good citizen, and a true friend.

He was preceded in death by his father, who died early in the Civil War, his mother, one brother, three sisters, and four children—Mary, Annie, Minnie, and Martha. He leaves to mourn his loss his faithful wife, one brother, twelve children: Mrs. Lulu Ruby, Wauneta, Nebr., Perry DeGarmo, Benkelman, Nebr., Paul of Trenton, Nebr., Glenn of Haigler, Nebr., Guy of Bridgeport, Nebr., Matthew of Kansas City, Jake of Denver, Samuel of St. Francis, Kans., Mrs. Josephine Lindner of Hermiston, Ore., Mrs. Phoebe Bowland, Haigler, Nebr., Mrs. Mary Horn, stepdaughter, Livonia, Mo., 44 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and a host of friends who grieve for his departure as a brother beloved.

Funeral services were held at the Nazarene Church last Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Trenton, Nebr.
