Orangeburg - Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Davis Saunders, 86, of 1000 Live Oaks Drive, Orangeburg, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Northside Baptist Church in Orangeburg with the Rev. John O'Cain and the Rev. Patrick Latta officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg. Mrs. Saunders died Sunday, Dec. 17, at The Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg. She was born Dec. 26, 1919, in Orangeburg County, the daughter of the late Andrew C. Davis and the late Annie Sturkie Davis. She was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church, a former accountant for Orangeburg County City Schools and was a member of the Orangeburg County Council on Aging. She was the widow of Alvin E. Saunders after being married for 58 years. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles Connelley; and four brothers, Robert C. Davis, C.B. Davis, Rev. Andrew O. "A.O." Davis and Earl Davis. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Judy) Connelley of Orangeburg and Mrs. Brooks (Miriam) "Mickey" Pearce of Wake Forest, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Alvin (Hallie) Saunders Jr. of Georgetown; one sister, Zilla D. Taylor of West Columbia; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the residence of Judy and Charles Connelley, 647 Limit St., Orangeburg and at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
