Ruth Ella Lea, 92, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009.
Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday in Chico Cemetery in Chico. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel.
Ruth was born Oct. 10, 1916, at 3418 Avenue G in the historic Polytechnic section of Fort Worth. Her father, Eugene Scott Lea from Mississippi, was a telegrapher for the Rock Island Railroad in Bridgeport. There he met Hazel Lee Ward, a teacher in Bridgeport. Hazel's father owned the A.D. Ward Drug Store.
Ruth Lea had three sisters: Irma Lea McDonald of California, Beth Lea Clardy a Fort Worth artist and her surviving sister, Nancy Lea Vance of Mansfield.
Few people knew that Ruth could play the piano by ear. She also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors: Her favorite activity was being with her nieces and nephews, Ann Ekstrom of Fort Worth, Gwen Sylvester of Maine, John and Kathy Clardy of Fort Worth, Gene and Gayle Vance of New Mexico, Sharon and Tommy Tabor of Mansfield, Clifton and Becky, Vance of Fort Worth; and her extended family, John II and Britt Clardy of Fort Worth, Andrea Tabor of Waco, Amanda, Keith and Ben Boettger of Mansfield and Tony, Nicolas and Cara Vance of Fort Worth and Sandy and Ed Vinson of Hurst.
