Pierce was born in Dayton, Tennessee. His family moved to Indian Territory shortly after the turn of the century. He graduated from high school at McAlester, Oklahoma, and learned photography by working with his father. They had a photo studio in North McAlester and later in Dewar, Oklahoma. They closed the studio in 1920. Pierce purchased a small farm east of Checotah, Oklahoma. He married Georgie Beach, and after her death, he married the widow, Mattie Ramsey. Pierce had no children.
