Delia was the daughter of the Reverend William Reynex and Lanah (Conklin) Duryee. She married, 17 October 1850 in Nunda, Livingston County, New York, Andrew Joseph Russell. A. J. Russell was a painter and photographer, best known for his photographs of the Civil War and of the building of the Transcontinental Railway.
Delia and her children were often apart from her husband, particularly after his work for the Union Pacific Railroad was complete. Andrew returned to New York City, which he never again left, and Delia remained in Minnesota with her daughters.
