Harry Gilbert Davis was the son of Harriett Pruett and Joe Davis. The couple did not marry. Harry was probably born in the home of his maternal grandparents in Marion, Marshall Co., Iowa. There were two men named Joe Davis in the town in which Harry was born. It is unknown as to which of these two men was his father.

According to draft records, Harry Davis was 5'8" tall with grey eyes and dark hair.

Harry was married twice. The first marriage (in May or June of 1900) was to Dollie May Hoffman. While they were expecting their first child, the couple moved from Iowa to Boone County, Nebraska. By Jan 1, 1902, the couple had moved to a sod house on land owned by Dollie's mother and step father in Leo Valley, Greeley Co., NE. Daughter Marie was born in the sod house on that date. Leo Valley no longer exists but it was one the name of an area outside of Spalding, NE.

Three children were born from the marriage to Dolly: Harold Arthur Davis (1900-1925), Alice Harriet Marie Davis (1902-1993) and a son, Walter who died in infancy. According to Alice Harriet Marie Davis Walter was buried in an unmarked grave in Dublin Cemetery, Boone County, Ne. Given that Walter is buried in Dublin County, NE, it is likely that he was born prior to the move to Leo Valley. That would mean that he would have to be Harold's twin or (the more likely scenario) he would have had to have been born in 1901. It is also possible that he was the third child born to the couple, which would put his date of birth after 1902.

By 1907 Harry and Dolly moved their young family to Sterling, Logan Co., Colorado. In addition, Harry's mother and father in-law, and Dolly's brother and his family also made the move. The entire group, including the children, were employed on a potato farm.

The couple divorced ca. 1908 while they were living in Sterling, Logan Co., Colorado. Dolly Mae moved back to Spalding, NE and Harry made a visit to his hometown of Marysville, Iowa.

On March 2, 1909 Harry Davis married Minnie O'Dean in Marysville, Iowa. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Sterling, Colorado where Harry Davis worked on a farm owned by Ryan O'Brian. The address of the farm was listed as Front Street in what appears to be a town named Aluting (no such town exists at this time). The actual farm was located in Padroni in Logan County. By this time Harry owned his own home on Rt. OA in Sterling.

Harry and Minnie had four daughters: Dorothy Eleanor Davis, Laura Aleen Davis, Alta Mae Davis, and Betty Jane Davis. This marriage was a very happy one.

in Jan of 1925 Harry and Minnie (with 3 daughters) were living in Salt Creek, Davis, Iowa. Harry was 45 at this time. In 1930, the family (which now included 4 daughters) was living in Lyons, Boulder, Colorado. In 1940 they were living in Valley, King Co., Washington. In 1942 they moved to Kent, King County, WA. By the time of Harry's death in 1950 he had moved to Auburn in King County, Washington.

in 1942 Harry had to register for the draft for WWII. According to his draft record, Harry

Lastly, the one thing that everyone seems to remember about Harry Davis was the fact that he was a kind and giving person. Supposedly he would give away his last dime if someone asked him for it. To this end he never had much in the way of material possessions; yet, he was a happy man. I have been told that Harry's second family did not have a lot in terms of material wealth but the love and happiness in their home made up for the lack of money.
