son of Christen & Mary (Krentzel) Berkenbile
Andrew Lincoln Berkenbile was born in Pilot Grove, Missouri, in 1889. On his mother's death bed, she prayed for each of her family members as they all gathered around the bed. Andrew's step-mother was a harsh, dominating, unlearned woman. So, at the age of 16, Andrew Lincoln left home. He worked in a sawmill for a short time (living in a leaky tent) where he contracted malaria. He worked any job he could find and finally worked his way to Oklahoma City where he married Artie Frances Price on April 26, 1910. After the death of their first-born son (Everette Vernon Berkenbile) at Goodnight, Oklahoma, they moved to Fort Benton, Montana to "prove up" a homestead. While there, the young couple lost a baby girl (Opal Irene Berkenbile) and had another son (Norman Andrew Berkenbile). When their homestead was in clear title, they sold to a wealthy sheepman and moved back to Oklahoma.
