Phyllis Marie Stanton Abner 11/17/1924 ~ 4/1/2009 Phyllis Abner has passed away of complications incident to Alzheimer disease.

Phyllis was born in Evanston Wyoming, but she grew up in West Jordan as one of the many members of the "Steadman"clan. She was a big help to her mother with the care of her physically and mentally handicapped brother. She lived briefly in California with her father, as a teenager, where she graduated from High School and met and married Clyde Abner in November of 1943. They returned to Utah after World War II ended and closed Clyde's service in the Navy. They built a home in Layton Utah and both worked at Hill Air Force Base. Clyde and Phyllis had three children together but ended up divorcing in 1966.

Phyllis loved to travel and realized her dreams of several international trips including visits to the Holy Land and a Mediterranean cruise. She also loved to paint and was a very talented artist. She took both first place and people's choice awards in competitions that she had entered her artwork into. She planned to take up painting full time after her retirement from her logistics specialist career at HAFB in 1987. Unfortunately vision problems kept her from pursuing that dream. Phyllis was a very active member of the Toast-mistress organization and held several leadership positions during her years of membership. She was a founding member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Clearfield, UT and participated in several spiritual organizations over the years.

She is predeceased by her parents, James Stanton and Mabel Steadman as well as her beloved brother, Keith; and her step father, Vern Johnson. She is survived by her three children: Steven Abner (Chris) of Clearfield; Debra Abner of Cottonwood Heights; and Randy Abner of Federal Way, Washington; she is also survived by three grand children and three great grandchildren; and many of her cousins, particularly Verla Roberts who stayed a life long friend.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at the Wentworth in Cottonwood Heights, Apple Village in Layton, and Community Nursing Services Hospice Care for the care and concern they have shown Phyllis during the last years of her life.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State St., Midvale, where a viewing will be held Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. She will be buried with her mother and brother in Sandy City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Phyllis's name to your favorite charity.
