87 Year Old Star Valley Pioneer Dies at Ogden
Enoch Joseph Broadbent, 87, 1775 22nd St., celebrated as the fourth white child to be born in Idaho at Franklin, died Wednesday at 4:20 p.m. at the family residence after a three week illness.
He was born November 22, 1860 in Franklin, a son of Mr and Mrs. Enoch Broadbent, who came to Utah in 1853 and were dispatched by Brigham Young to settle the souther Idaho area in the Franklin vicinity.
The family resided there until 1875 and then moved to Afton, Wyo., in 1892. They moved to Blackfoot, Idaho in 1903. Since 1910 the family had resided in Ogden.
His early athletic ability gained prominence as a bear hunter in Wyoming and he was noted as an ardent sportsman in hunting and fishing.
By vocation he was a stonemason and timber man and later did some contracting.
He had been active in various organizations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the time of his death he was a high priest in the Ogden stake quorum, where he was a member of the 30th ward.
On December 8, 1886, he married Lottie Hancey in Hyde Park, Cache County.
Surviving are his widow and the following sons and daughter; O.Leonard, Leland F., E. Arden, William H., and Joseph Lorin Broadbent and Mrs. Portio B. Shreeve.
