On the 1850 Dist. 2, Augusta Co., VA census, I found blacksmith William Dunlap, 32; WILLIAM B., 10; James L., 8; George W., 6; Albert J., 3; Adam D., 18; Juliet., 28 and Elizabeth, 20, all VA born, except for William B., in Indiana.
On the 1860 Burkes Mill, , Augusta Co., VA census, I found blacksmith Wm Dunlap, 45; Julia E., 37; WILLIAM B., 18; Jas L., 16; Geo W., 13; Albert J., 12; Laura A., 1/12 and Julia A. 17, all born in VA, except for Wm, born in IN. They lived next to Margaret Dunlap, 56 and her family.
On the 1870 Craigsville, Dist. 6, Augusta Co., VA census, I found blacksmith WILLIAM Dunlap (Julia's son), 28; (now a widow) Julia E., 47; blacksmith Allen I or J., 23 and Annetta E., 10, all VA born.
On the 1880 Pastures, Augusta Co., VA census, I found blacksmith WILLIAM Dunlap, 38; wife Mary, 26; Emett, 3; Viola, 1 and Lula, 2/12, April, all VA born, except William in IN and his parent were both born in VA. He lived next to his mother JULIA Dunlap, 57 and his sister Etta Dunlap, 20, both VA born.
Suspect this was his obit despite 2 errors: "R". B. Dunlap died last week with heart disease at his home near Jennings' Gap, aged "65" years. Mr. Dunlap was a brave soldier in the civil war and was highly esteemed by thoses who enjoyed his acquaintance. He leaves a wife and several children. Published in the 6 Jul 1899 issue of the Staunton Spectator and Vindicator.
Following his death, on the 1900 Pastures, Augusta Co., VA census, I found widow M.E. Dunlap, 64, born Feb 1854, had 9 kids, all living sons and daughters: Emmit, 23, Oct 1876; Maud _, 21, Aug 1878; Lenora B., 20, Apr 1880; Shurley E., 16, Aug 1883; M. Ray, 14; Nov 1885; Nellie F., 12, Oct 1887; Wilmot, 8, Jan 1891; Robt W., 7, Aug 1892; Earl C.,, 4, Sep 1895, all VA born. All the children list their father, born in IN.
He has a cenotaph (Findagrave #129900630) that is shared with his wife Mary E Shirley and son Robert in Big Rock, Illinois, but he is buried here. The marker even says he is buried in Churchville.
