Joseph D. Fox of Statesville was born the son of the late John Albert Fox and Missouri Adelaide Proffitt Fox. He attended Cool Spring School and on May 9, 1936, was married to Myrtle Richardson Fox, who died in 1997. He was a Methodist and farmed in his earlier years and later was a carpenter. Mr. Fox was a son of a Confederate Soldier, John Albert Fox, who served in the Confederate Army under Gen. Robert E. Lee. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Fox was preceded in death by two brothers, Jason E. Fox and Ross E. Fox, and by a nephew, David Albert Fox. Joe was the last Iredell County son of a Civil War veteran. He is survived by his nephew, Paul "Pete" Thomas Fox and wife, Elisabeth; four nieces, Katie Fox Pope and husband, Freddie, Mary O'Neil Fox Frye, Sylvia Fox Goble and husband, Cody, and Linda Fox Lackey. Several nieces and nephews on the Richardson Family side also survive. Joe Fox will be remembered for his "dry wit" his story telling and charity. He died at age 98 at Davis Regional Medical Center.
