Mr. Hitchcock was awarded the contract to build the Universalist Church in Portland.
He was a veteran of the Civil War; 9th Infantry, Company D, enlisting on Oct. 15, 1861. He mustered out on Oct. 13, 1862 at Nashville, TN.

Mr. Hitchcock attempted to thaw out some dynamite on a stove in his shop, the debris flew in every direction when the dynamite let go! Thankfully, only his ego was damaged.
His shop became the location of the Wolverine Soap Co. located on Water St on the banks of the Grand River.

Rochester, NY - 13 Jul 1936, Charlotte, MI, spouse of Thomas Tonkin and retired schoolteacher.
