James Lee Carlton

James Lee Carlton, 67, of Sweetwater and formerly of Stamford, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009 in Abilene.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tankersley Funeral Chapel in Stamford with Rev. Ron Renegarbe officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Tuxedo.

The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5-7 p.m.

James was born in Stamford Jan. 24, 1942, to Wayne and Bertha Carlton. He graduated Stamford High School in 1960. He then attended McMurry College in Abilene. He married Gloria Weaver in Stamford on June 2, 1963.

James worked for General Dynamics in Fort Worth several years until starting to work for Halliburton Oil Field Services in 1974. He retired from Halliburton in 1997 and moved to Sweetwater. James was a Lutheran.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gloria Carlton, of Sweetwater; one daughter, Leigh Anne Esparza and husband Naldo of Crane; one son, James Michael Carlton and wife Shirley of Crane; one sister, Lois Ann Howard of Haskell; one brother Wallace Wayne Carlton Jr. of Hawley; five grandchildren, Tyler Esparza, Teague Esparza, Baylor Esparza, Holt Carlton and Brylee Carlton.
