Callie was the oldest of the six children, all daughters, born to Wayne Young and Martha Jane "Jane" (Crim) Ozley. Her younger sisters were Kathleen "Sis" Helen, Nellie "Nell" Elenor, Ethel Lee, Jewel Eunice, and Flora Drucilla.

Little Callie was only four years old when her mother passed away. Her father did not remarry but somehow managed to keep the family together. Her sister, Flora, shared memories of how the extended family (most of whom lived nearby) pitched in to help Wayne in the little ways they could. Regarding Callie, she said that her mother's brother, Jesse Lee, would take her to school.

Sadly, Callie would not grow up with her sisters. She died on November 6, 1900. It was her ninth birthday. Her sister, Flora, related that Callie died of a "kidney condition, probably nephritis."

Callie is buried at Harless Cemetery, Shelby County, Alabama. Her grave is near the back right of the cemetery with others in her family who would pass on later.
