Mrs. Virgil Schmitz
Funeral services were held at St. Marys church, St. Benedict, Friday morning for Mrs. Virgil Schmitz, who passed away Tuesday, March 13, 1956.
The Requiem High Mass was offered by Rev. Edward Schmitz O.S.B., uncle of Virgil Schmitz, sermon was given by Rev. Leander Schier O.S.B. Burial was at the St. Benedict cemetery.
Mrs. Schmitz passed away following the birth of a little daughter on March 8.
She was the former Irene Bernice Mathewson, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mathewson of Baileyville. She was born on April 23, 1926.
She and Virgil Schmitz were married on June 3, 1947, at Sacred Heart church at Baileyville, and moved to a farm north of Baileyville, which has since been their home.
They have four children, Linus, John, Marion, and the baby, Jane. Besides her husband and children, and her parents, Mrs. Schmitz also leaves two brothers and two sisters. They are Dorothy, who is Mrs. Adrian Schmitz of Centralia, Raymond of Axtell, Marvin and Ileta, who are at home.
Mrs. Schmitz's life was marked by graciousness and in help to others. She was active in church and community affairs; she was friendly and held in high esteem by all who knew her.
She was devoted to her family and was an untiring helpmate to her husband, who had an attack of polio about three and a half years ago.
Virgil Schmitz, the husband, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Schmitz of Seneca.
The immediate family, and the parental families, the Mathewson-Schmitz families have the sincere sympathy of a wide community.
Mrs. Schmitz was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, and of St. Ann's Altar Sodality.
The pallbearers, active and honorary, at the service Friday were William Mathewson, Ed. Deters, Norbert Wessel, Clarence Schmitz, Verness Oenbring, Gilbert Stallbaumer, Dick Rilinger, Justin Rottinghaus, Pete Rettele, Edwin Schmitz, Raymond Wessel, and Raymond Oenbring.
